What is a Deep Well Water Level Meter?

A deep well water level meter (also called borehole dip meter or steel ruler water level meter) measures the depth from the ground surface down to the water level inside a well, borehole or drill hole. The GLT500A works on a simple, field-proven principle: a stainless steel probe is lowered into the well on a steel ruler cable; the moment the probe tip touches the water surface, the conductive circuit closes and the instrument triggers an instant buzzer sound and LED light. You then read the water depth directly from the permanent scale printed on the cable.

The probe is the only sensing element — no pump, no power wiring, no fragile electronics at depth. With a range up to 500 meters, millimeter-level accuracy of ±0.5 mm and a slim 14 mm probe for narrow boreholes, the GLT500A is built for hydrological surveys, water conservancy projects, irrigation districts and groundwater monitoring where reliable field readings matter.

How to Measure Deep Well Water Level in 4 Steps

Release the reel

Loosen the screws at the back of the wire spool to allow free rotation, then press the power button — the indicator light comes on.

Lower the probe

Guide the probe into the well casing and lower it slowly while holding the steel ruler cable.

Touch the water

The moment the probe contacts the water surface, the buzzer sounds continuously and the LED lights up. In noisy sites, switch to the voltmeter peak indication.

Read the depth

Read the depth marking on the steel ruler cable at the top of the pipe. Convert the reading to elevation as required.

Accuracy tip: identify the exact start of the buzzer/indication and move the probe slowly — reading accuracy depends on operator familiarity, so practice on each new site.
